These are the pictures that I chose from my shoot to use for my magazine. The first picture I cut around and used for my front cover as I thought that this was a really good picture which showed his innocence from the 'gangster life' and was a full body shot in which the clothes were shown fully. The second picture I used on my contents page as I thought this picture was full of energy and was a good shot in which he was pointing to the word 'Contents'. The other two pictures I used on my 2-page-spread as I thought they would be the most appropriate and were amongst my favourtie shots that I took.

entry 8: added information - progress

I started off making my magazine by starting with the Front Cover as this is the most important part of a magazine in which to grab the readers attention and make them want to purchase the magazine. I chose a black background as I thought it would look effective and goes with the genre of hip-hop as most hip-hop artists are from a black background. I then wanted a font to fit the genre aswell so I went onto the website www.dafont.com where there was plenty of fonts for me to choose from. I then added information to the front cover e.g. artists and storylines featured in the magazine. After this I decided to start on my contents page as I didnt want to get too into the front page and rush the contents and 2-page-spread. I placed to title and added a few page ideas on the page. After this I then started on the 2-page-spread which required around 800 words so I thought to take time on this as I had to make it all up and make it seem as though it was a real interview with the real artist. Once I had finished the 2-page-spread I went back to the front cover and finished off any extra bits that needed to be added, then the same with the contents page. Once all the pages were finished I selected my chosen pictures for the magazine and inserted them onto the pages.

entry 7: added information - photoshoot

For my photoshoot I used my friend, Jamie who lives just down the road from me so it was easy access to go and shoot him. I decided to use him as my model because I thought he had the main look, basically from his personality and clothes that he wore. Which suit the overall genre of my magazine, hip-hop perfectly. I decided to go for the basic look of an overall grey traksuit, with smart trainers and a basic t-shirt. The reason I chose this idea is because I thought that even though it looked very basic, it suited the genre well and less is always more. After a few shots I decided to change the clothing and opt for a more fresh look in which he wouldn't be sterotyped as just a 'gangster' but to show that the genre doesn't always necessarily have to be dressed in traksuits all the time. I dressed him in some baggy three-quarter length jeans, with a t-shirt and smart jacket with some beige Timberlands, as I thought this would look smart for the 2-page-spread shots. I took the photoshoot in my front room as originally I was going to use one of the backalleys around my area but once I started producing my magazine I thought best just to take the photos in a well lit room and cut around the image.

entry 6: Sketch Ideas - Contents Page 01.05.09

This is a sketch of a few content page ideas that I have designed as to help me create and decide which idea I will use for my magazine. I decided to use big fonts for the title 'Contents' as this will tell the reader what page they are on and where to find certain information in the magazine e.g. which page their favourite artists will feature on. I also used text box ideas and areas in which to insert pictures to make the page look more appealing. From these 4 ideas I have decided that I will use idea NO.4 as this is simplistic yet with certain fonts and a good picture will look effective and easy to read and use.

entry 5: Preliminary Task - Contents Page 27.04.09

This is an example of the contents page that i roughly sketched for my Preliminary Task. I used a big, bold format for 'Contents' as this represents what page it is and stands out well as to inform the reader that this is the page where they can get vital information from e.g. what page their exams are on. Included on the contents page are main headlines: News, Exams, Extra. Underneath these would feature information and page numbers as to which page they would appear on. I also showed that pictures would feature on the page relating to the main topics in the college magazine as this would look better than just a load of text.
From this task it has given me some ideas as to what will feature on my magazine contents page and has also made me decide on some design ideas, such as font and layout of text.
